I'll be doing a series of parenting workshops in May and June and wanted to share the information with you. The workshops are tailored to different age groups, so there is something for parents with young children, all the way through the teenage years.

The workshops will be held at my new office in Chelsea in Manhattan, located at 156 5th Avenue. Payment must be received before the first session, and you can reserve a spot by contacting me here on the web site.

Half Day Workshops for Parents of 3-10 Years Olds

Workshops for Parents of 11-19 Year Olds

Workshop lasts 2 hours.

  • Move from a “heads in the sand clueless parent” to an aerial “fingers on the pulse” parent

  • Learn how to have and set age reasonable appropriate limits and boundaries

Aerial Parenting
Raising a child, tween and teen can be one major challenge that can send your inner world into turmoil. When challenged or provoked by your child too many parents get caught up in power struggles, yelling, lecturing, finger pointing and spanking as tools for discipline and later feel absolutely guilt riddled. I offer 22 AERIAL PARENTING tips that will help you see the bigger picture and get much needed perspective in lovingly parenting your precious child.

Aerial Parenting Your Toddler
Our children are unique masterpieces and it's my thrust to help you help them become all that they are meant to be. See the oft times mislabeled "terrible two's and three's and fours" as opportunities to learn from your child. Learn how negotiate a potential power struggle and stave off a temper tantrum. Our children are in the midst of learning self expression. Mom and Dad expect their frustration to be acted out in aggressive outbursts. While coming down to their level with age appropriate expectations and setting flexible and reasonable parameters, learn self soothing strategies while utilizing my anti-punishment approach. Cyberbullying / Harrassment / Hazing
One of your tween, teen child's best friends could become and may be a bully. Maybe your child is a bully? A scary thought. Statistics don't lie. The national center for education statistics report 25 percent of all students say they are bullied on a daily or weekly basis. For children with disabilities that jumps to 85 percent!!!! Bullied boys are 4 times likely to be suicidal. Bullied girls 8 times likely to be suicidal.

Our children are growing up in a world with the potential of 24/7 hate sites. Delve into the misuse and abuse via Facebook, Formspring, sexting, IMs, and in-school and neighborhood verbal and physical violence. Learn the red flags to identify if your child is being victimized? What is the profile of a bully? Why would a teen and young adult resort to suicide? What is cybercide? Technology And Sex: What Our Children, Tween And Teens Are Into And Up To And How To Deal
Our children are growing up in an over-stimulating, over-exposed and fast paced world and teen culture. The average age a child is first exposed to Internet pornography is just eleven years old!!!! Seventy five percent of teens say their parents "almost never" monitor the times they spend on-line and 29 percent say their parents would disapprove if they knew what they were really doing on the Internet. Your child is falling into chat rooms, lying about their age, communicating with people who lie, pedophiles, putting very personal information out on Facebook and cyberspace, cyberbullying or being cyberbullied on Form Spring, sexting and passing nude photos on their cell phones and more!!

TIPS on helping your tween, teen develop better processing and impulse control. Connecting them to cause and effect, my "lend your brain" program, utilizing TV, media as a spring board for teaching opportunities, and expecting them to make mistakes. Myth Of The Barbie Doll And The Man Of Steel: Body Image And The Myth Of Perfection
The media, TV shows, commercial and info-mercial diet/exercise ads, fashion and health magazines, cosmetic, plastic surgery, pornography, diet industries all portray over-sexualized distorted images through body perfection. How is this affecting our youth? Through clever profit making, PR. marketing and photo shopping, the message we are all getting is that "we are not good enough as we are and have to contour and reshape ourselves to fit the image that you can't be to thin, emaciated or too muscular, buffed up, 6 and 12 packed. When taken to an extreme it sets the stage for disordered eating and the development of an eating disorder, anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder.

The Abc's Of Eating Disorders
An introduction into the world of eating disorders. Warning signs for anorexia, bulimia, compulsive eating and binge eating disorder. Interventions, prevention and recovery. The role of the family, biology and socio-cultural impact and the media on understanding the etiology of an eating disorder. Internet hate sites: Proana and Promia. National Eating Disorder Association's Proud2Beme teen web as a direct response to the body and self hate sites.

Eating Disorders And The Male And Female Athlete
Combine the pressure and expectation to make weight plus an obsessive over emphasis on appearance and that equals a strong correlation to the development of eating disorders. We will look into the making and training of the wrestler, runner, gymnist, tennis player, ballerina and athletes with endorsements that model for fashion ads. This pressure has been reported in additional sports: baseball, basketball and soccer, the Olympics and other competitive events.

The myth of Thin=Win and the development of the Female Athlete Triad Syndrome, losing menses, and early onset of osteoporosis, bone thinning, loss, breakage and the tragic shortening of an athletes career. Why are eating disorders continuing to spill into these sports? Our children are experimenting at a much younger age. Kids are having oral sex as young as eleven, and drinking and drugging in middle school. Kids are developing STD's from unprotected oral sex. Having the "sex" talk about pornography, rainbow parties, pharm parties, contraceptives, pregnancy with your tweens and continuing with your teens and young adults. We will discuss the phenomena of "it's not sex, it's kissing" the "cool, the no big deal and the popular" factor in risk taking behavior.

Even though the pregnancy rate has gone down, there is still so much more work in educating and protecting babies from having babies. Ten percent of all U.S. birth are to teens.
